Designing Your Ideal Life ~ Principle two:
Don't get side-tracked
After deciding what your top priorities are, you want to focus on them in a way that won't allow you to get side-tracked. Find a way to remind yourself daily what your focus is and what you need to be doing on any given day in order to realize your long-term life goals. In order to design a life that YOU love. Face it, in today's fast-paced society it's easy to get overwhelmed by all there is to do. That overwhelm can blur our vision allowing us to inadvertently wander off our path.
Two ways that I work to stay focused are by
A. Posting a Master Priority List above my desk that names the top one or two priorities in each of the four following areas: spiritual, personal, family, and career.
Now Because it is important to me to be continually growing in the area of spirituality, I've listed daily spiritual study, and giving service weekly, as my two top priorities in this area.
Under personal, my top priorities are creating a daily food plan each morning that consists of healthy and supportive foods, and getting in a daily workout, because my personal goals right now are to release the excess weight that I gained after injuring my back a few years ago and to be physically healthier overall.
In the family area I have listed being consistent with my son's schooling because it's very important to me that he have a solid education, and nourishing familial relationships through weekly family nights and biweekly date nights. I know that just wishing for close relationships won't make it happen - I have to be willing to make the time and do the planning to make it happen. As a reward for the effort, I have been married for 26 years, and have strong, loving relationships with both of my children and my grandson. We've had our ups and downs, but taking time to relax and play together always puts things back in proper perspective.
And last, but not least, under the career category I have listed the top three things I want to accomplish in the next six months in my business life.
Keeping this posted on a small piece of poster board over my desk means I'll see it first thing in the morning, as well as several times throughout my day - keeping my focus and my vision strong for the long-haul.
Your priority categories may be similar to mine, or completely different. It's all about what is most important in your life. Remember, you are designing YOUR ideal life!
B. The second focus tool I employ is a Top 6 Most Important list - a throwback to my Mary Kay days. I developed a simple daily form in my word processing program that has space for our daily schedule, my Top 6 list, and my daily food and fitness plan. I plan my days based on what is in line with the top priorities on my Master list.
If you start each day with a plan you're more likely to accomplish what you've set out to accomplish. But, whatever you do, keep it simple. You don't need any more complications in your life.
Try it this week and see how it works for you! And watch for Principle 3 next week!

What Question Really Bugs Fit Yummy Mummy Holly Rigsby?
On tuesday night's call I asked this question because I had had heard Holly answer it before and new her feelings on it. And Holly answered back the next day in an e-mail to all her ladies. The answer is that important. Read on to find out more:
What was the question? I aske Holly what do you say to women who say they can't eat healthy because doing so deprives hubby and the kiddos of their favorite foods?
And here is the e-mail answer Holly sent out:
The One Question That Makes Me Cringe by Holly Rigsby
It happens...every so often I get this question and I really have to pause for a moment, collect my thoughts and smile.
"Okay, so what do I feed my kids?"
Yes, Viki. As a busy Mom who
works with busy Moms as they reach their body shaping goals, this is the question that gets me every time.
Additional concerns shared sound like this...
~ My children do not like vegetables ~ It's too expensive to buy healthier options ~ I don't have the time ~ I can't deprive them of their favorite foods?!
My stance on this topic is extremely strong.
As Mothers we play the most powerful role in our children's lives.
Children learn what they live and our actions speak volumes!
Yes, I do agree, that it can be difficult to make the change to a healthier eating plan BUT it does not have to be the battle we all make it out to be.
Here are some tips the Fit Yummy Mummy's have found to make the whine-free transition
~ Lead by Example Enough said.
~ Create an illusion of Control Give them the option of choice- invite them to help plan out the menus for the week. This has always worked well with Tyler.
~ Keep the junk out of the house Replace with fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, cheese stick, etc. We have designated a snack box in the pantry and the fridge.
~ Get this...Children LOVE to Learn! Instead of telling them to eat their broccoli or Else! Explain why. Get them involved...make healthy eating an enjoyable topic!
My son Tyler thrives off this approach. He is now able to identify when others are making good choices and Not so good choices...this opens up a great conversation.
~ Plan for "Once in a whiles" Tyler's term for when it is okay to have a not so healthy option. Yes, he is a normal kid who enjoys a McDonald's Happy Meal or fresh baked chocolate chip cookies....but he understands the consequences of eating like this every day.
Healthy eating for our children is all about balance and moderation.
~ Stand your ground You are ultimately in control. Children NEED boundaries and the NEED our guidance.
Think about this....
What is convenient for us now... is harder for our children in the long run.
Have an opinion on this one?
Putting a limit the amount of junk our children eat - does it really deprive them of their childhood?
