Designing Your Ideal Life ~ Part II

Designing Your Ideal Life ~ Principle two:

Don't get side-tracked

After deciding what your top priorities are, you want to
focus on them in a way that won't allow you to get
side-tracked. Find a way to remind yourself daily what your
focus is and what you need to be doing on any given day in
order to realize your long-term life goals. In order to
design a life that YOU love.
Face it, in today's fast-paced society it's easy to get
overwhelmed by all there is to do. That overwhelm can blur
our vision allowing us to inadvertently wander off our
path.

Two ways that I work to stay focused are by:

A. Posting a Master Priority List above my desk that names
the top one or two priorities in each of the four following
areas: spiritual, personal, family, and career.

Now Because it is important to me to be continually growing
in the area of spirituality, I've listed daily spiritual
study, and giving service weekly, as my two top priorities
in this area.

Under personal, my top priorities are creating a daily food
plan each morning that consists of healthy and supportive
foods, and getting in a daily workout, because my personal
goals right now are to release the excess weight that I
gained after injuring my back a few years ago and to be
physically healthier overall.

In the family area I have listed being consistent with my
son's schooling because it's very important to me that he
have a solid education, and nourishing familial
relationships through weekly family nights and biweekly
date nights. I know that just wishing for close
relationships won't make it happen - I have to be willing
to make the time and do the planning to make it happen. As
a reward for the effort, I have been married for 26 years,
and have strong, loving relationships with both of my
children and my grandson. We've had our ups and downs, but
taking time to relax and play together always puts things
back in proper perspective.

And last, but not least, under the career category I have
listed the top three things I want to accomplish in the
next six months in my business life.

Keeping this posted on a small piece of poster board over
my desk means I'll see it first thing in the morning, as
well as several times throughout my day - keeping my focus
and my vision strong for the long-haul.

Your priority categories may be similar to mine, or
completely different. It's all about what is most important
in your life. Remember, you are designing YOUR ideal life!

B. The second focus tool I employ is a Top 6 Most Important
list - a throwback to my Mary Kay days. I developed a
simple daily form in my word processing program that has
space for our daily schedule, my Top 6 list, and my daily
food and fitness plan. I plan my days based on what is in
line with the top priorities on my Master list.

If you start each day with a plan you're more likely to
accomplish what you've set out to accomplish. But,
whatever you do, keep it simple. You don't need any more
complications in your life.

Try it this week and see how it works for you! And watch
for Principle 3 next week!
